Warrior talents for PvP

Talents start at level 10, with one-point milestone talents at 11, 16, 21 and 31 points. At the beta's level 30 cap you have 21 points, or a few more with the Legacy perk Talented: enough for a tree's 21-point talent, not its 31-point capstone. Dual Specialization opens at level 40.

Arms: healing reduction and stance control

TalentWhat it does
Improved Tactical MasteryEach point keeps 3 more Rage when you change stance, up to 25.
Spearing Strike16-point talent15 Rage, 20-second cooldown. Hits for 40% weapon damage and knocks the target off its mount, with extra damage against mounted targets. Since October 1 it works with any weapon but needs Battle Stance.
BloodthrillRow 5Main-hand attacks on a target with Rend have a 4–20% chance to enable Overpower for 6 seconds.
WeaponmasterRow 5Replaces the four weapon specializations: axes and polearms add critical strike chance, maces and staves ignore some armor, swords can grant an extra attack.
Improved SlamRow 6Two points. Slam casts faster, no longer delays your swing, and its 18-second cooldown drops by up to 3 seconds. October 15 also makes Slam immune to pushback from damage.
Mortal StrikeArms talent from level 40. Cuts the target's healing by 50% for 10 seconds on a 6-second cooldown, so you can keep it up on a healed target.

Fury: two weapons and mobility

TalentWhat it does
BloodthirstFury talent from level 40. No longer heals; instead you gain 10% movement speed for 10 seconds. Attack Power ratio 45% since October 1.
Furious PrecisionRow 34, 7 or 10% off-hand hit chance. Dual Wield Specialization no longer adds hit.
Raging Blows16-point talentCleave and Whirlwind cost 3 less Rage. Whirlwind now hits with both weapons without a talent.
Death Wish20% more physical damage and Fear immunity for 30 seconds (3-minute cooldown), but you take 5% more damage. Now required for Flurry.
Gore DrinkerRow 6After Enrage, Berserker Rage, Bloodrage, Death Wish or Bloodthirst, your next 3 melee attacks restore 0.5 or 1% of your maximum health. Requires Enrage.
Improved Berserker RageRow 5Berserker Rage also gives 10 Rage and removes slows and roots on you; October 15 announces a fix to that movement-control removal.

Protection: a PvP side tree

Blizzard reworked Protection so Warriors without a shield can reach the middle of the tree and use it as a PvP side specialization.

TalentWhat it does
Iron WillRow 1Stuns and Fear on you last up to 15% less (Wowhead's data; Blizzard mentions only stuns).
Improved BloodrageRow 1More Rage from Bloodrage, both at once and over time.
Improved DisarmRow 3Shortens Disarm's cooldown instead of extending its duration.
Vanguard16-point talentCharge works in Defensive Stance.
Last StandGain 30% of your maximum health for 20 seconds, lost again when it ends; 3-minute cooldown.

Which tree to play

  • Arms is our starting pick for battlegrounds. Mortal Strike stops healers from saving your target, and Improved Tactical Mastery lets you switch stances for Intercept, Pummel or Disarm while keeping up to 25 Rage.
  • Fury suits two one-handed weapons. Bloodthirst's speed boost and Improved Berserker Rage's snare removal keep you on kiting targets.
  • Protection points (Iron Will, Improved Disarm, Last Stand, Vanguard) make a good second set with Dual Specialization, for defending bases or carrying flags.

Key Warrior abilities

October 15 makes Battle Shout raid-wide and fixes Lingering Rage stopping health regeneration after combat. Slam now ignores damage pushback; that does not make it immune to an interrupt or Silence.

Most PvP tools are tied to a stance. Unless an October 15 amendment is noted, values are the first rank from Wowhead's Forever database, datamined beta game data checked October 12; higher ranks hit harder.

AbilityLevelCooldownUse it to
Charge415 secOpen a fight: rush in from 8–25 yards, stun for 1 second and gain Rage. Battle Stance, out of combat only.
Intercept3030 secReach a target mid-fight and stun it for 3 seconds. Berserker Stance.
Hamstring8NoneSlow the target by 40% for 15 seconds (50% at rank 3). Battle or Berserker Stance.
Pummel3810 secInterrupt a cast and lock that spell school for 4 seconds. Berserker Stance.
Shield Bash1212 secInterrupt and lock the school for 6 seconds. Needs a shield; Battle or Defensive Stance.
Intimidating Shout223 minSave a healer: your target cowers and up to 5 enemies within 8 yards flee for 8 seconds.
Disarm181 minRemove a melee enemy's weapon for 10 seconds. Defensive Stance.
Berserker Rage3030 secBecome immune to Fear and Incapacitate effects for 10 seconds. Berserker Stance.
Overpower125 secPunish a dodge with a hit that cannot be blocked, dodged or parried. Battle Stance.
Victory Rush2030 secNew in Forever. After you kill a non-trivial enemy, strike and heal 10% of your maximum health within 20 seconds.
Retaliation2015 minCounterattack every melee hit from the front for 15 seconds. Battle Stance.
Shield Wall2815 minTake 60% less damage for 12 seconds. Defensive Stance.
Recklessness5030 min100% more critical strike chance and Fear immunity for 15 seconds, but you take 20% more damage. Berserker Stance.

Retaliation, Shield Wall and Recklessness no longer share a cooldown, so you can use each in the same fight. Two talents add control: Piercing Howl slows every enemy within 10 yards by 50% for 6 seconds, and Concussion Blow stuns for 5 seconds on a 45-second cooldown.

How Rage works in Forever

  • Getting hit: Rage ignores your armor and any absorb shield on you, so a Priest's Power Word: Shield no longer costs you Rage. On October 8 Blizzard fixed several bugs and expects Warriors to gain more Rage from damage taken.
  • Dealing damage: Rage depends on your weapon's speed, and critical strikes with basic attacks give 100% more Rage (75% before October 1).
  • Changing stance: Tactical Mastery (level 14) keeps 10 Rage; Improved Tactical Mastery raises it to 25.

Best racials for a Warrior

Unchanged cooldowns are datamined Wowhead values checked October 12; the October 15 Blizzard update supplies the amendments below. The race guide compares every racial.

RaceRacialWhy it helps
HumanWill to Survive (3 min)Removes all stuns on you. Strong against Rogues. Ruthless adds 2% critical strike chance.
DwarfStoneform (3 min)Removes and blocks bleeds, poisons and diseases, and cuts physical damage by 10% for 8 seconds. Earth Fury adds 2% critical damage and healing.
GnomeEscape Artist (2 min)Breaks roots and snares and blocks them for 3 seconds, so kiters have a harder time.
Night ElfElune's Light (3 min)10% more critical strike chance for 15 seconds.
OrcHardiness, Blood Fury (3 min), Shatter Curse (3 min)Stuns on you last 20% less; Blood Fury adds 10% Attack Power for 15 seconds. Shatter Curse dispels Curses and Banes and reduces magic damage taken by 5% for 8 seconds; it no longer prevents new applications. Savage adds 1% critical strike chance.
UndeadWill of the Forsaken (2 min)Removes Charm, Fear and Sleep. It gives no immunity afterwards. Since October 15, Will of the Forsaken is unavailable during Scatter Shot.
TrollBerserking (3 min)10% attack speed for 10 seconds.
TaurenWar Stomp (90 sec)Stuns up to 5 enemies within 8 yards for 2 seconds after a 0.5-second cast. Endurance now adds 2% critical damage and healing.

Fight tips

  • Against healersKeep Mortal Strike's healing reduction on the target your team is killing. Pummel or Shield Bash the healer's long casts.
  • Against kitersHamstring first, then hold Intercept for when the target breaks away. With Improved Berserker Rage, Berserker Rage clears slows and roots; Gnomes also have Escape Artist.
  • Against FearBerserker Rage blocks Fear for 10 seconds; Death Wish (30 seconds) and Recklessness (15 seconds) also make you immune. Use one when a Warlock starts casting Fear or a Priest closes in for Psychic Scream.
  • Against RoguesIron Will and the Orc racial shorten stuns, and Will to Survive removes them. Disarm takes a Rogue's weapon for 10 seconds.
  • Protecting your healerIntimidating Shout makes up to 5 attackers within 8 yards flee, and Piercing Howl slows every enemy within 10 yards. Intercept, not Charge, reaches an attacker mid-fight.

Recent Warrior changes

  • Bloodthrill's chance rose to 4–20%. Slam's cooldown rose to 18 seconds, and Improved Slam reduces it by 1.5 or 3 seconds.
  • Class preview: Victory Rush at level 20. Recklessness, Retaliation and Shield Wall stopped sharing a cooldown, with Retaliation and Shield Wall at 15 minutes. Rage from damage taken now ignores armor and absorbs.
  • Critical strikes with basic attacks give 100% more Rage. Spearing Strike works with any weapon in Battle Stance. Whirlwind hits with both weapons. Dual Wield Specialization lost its hit bonus, and Furious Precision, Lingering Rage and Gore Drinker were added. Improved Cleave and Boundless Rage were removed. Death Wish now leads to Flurry, and Berserker Rage moved to level 30. Iron Will moved to Protection's first row.
  • Rage bug fixes: Stamina no longer lowers Rage from damage taken, critical strikes and crushing blows count correctly, and absorbs are ignored. Deep Wounds is required for Impale again, and Last Stand grants the right amount of health.
