Druid talents for PvP
Talents start at level 10, with one-point milestone talents at 11, 16, 21 and 31 points. At the beta's level 30 cap you have 21 points, or a few more with the Legacy perk Talented: enough for a tree's 21-point talent, not its 31-point capstone. Dual Specialization opens at level 40. Talent effects below are from Blizzard's September 30 class preview and the later beta notes, with cooldowns from Wowhead's datamined Forever data checked October 12.
Feral Combat: Cat and Bear
| Talent | What it does |
|---|---|
| Feral SwiftnessRow 2 | Cat Form's speed bonus now works indoors, and the Dodge bonus applies at all times. |
| Brutal Impact | Now also shortens Bash's cooldown. |
| Feral Charge11-point talent | Adds a Cat Form version that leaps behind an enemy. It does not interrupt or root. |
| Shifting Power16-point talent | Replaces Tiger's Fury: gain 40 Energy at once for Mana. Requires Shredding Attacks. See how Shifting Power works. |
| Primal Bite16-point talent | The Bear-oriented talent on the same row, formerly Mangle. A 20-Rage attack for 100% weapon damage plus a bonus and very high threat, on a 6-second cooldown. Requires Savage Fury. |
| Improved Shifting PowerRow 5 | Cuts Shifting Power's cooldown by 4 or 8 seconds. |
| Leader of the Pack21-point talent | October 15: raid-wide critical strike chance for melee and ranged attacks only. |
| Berserk31-point talent | 15 seconds in Bear or Cat Form, 3-minute cooldown. Clears Fear and makes you immune to it. Primal Bite loses its cooldown and hits 3 targets, and Cat combo abilities gain 100% critical strike chance. |
Restoration: heals over time
| Talent | What it does |
|---|---|
| Nature's FocusRow 1 | Gives Arcane and Nature spells a chance to avoid interruption from damage (14% at rank 1). |
| Natural ShapeshifterRow 2 | Moved from Balance. Lowers the Mana cost of shapeshifting and Shifting Power. |
| Furor | At 5 points, Energy regenerates outside Cat Form except in Bear or Dire Bear Form. October 15 lets you retain your previous Cat Energy through either Bear form; those forms still stop Energy regeneration. |
| Gift of the Earthmother11-point talent | Rejuvenation, Swiftmend and Wild Growth trigger a 0.5-second shorter global cooldown. |
| Swiftmend16-point talent | Instantly heals a target that has Rejuvenation or Regrowth, on a 15-second cooldown. It no longer uses up that heal over time. |
| Wild Growth31-point talent | A 7-second heal over time on every member of the target's party, pets included, strongest at the start. 6-second cooldown and a high Mana cost. |
Regrowth's Mana cost is much lower in Forever. October 15 moved Shred rank 1 to level 20 and clarified that free Faerie Fire in Cat or Bear forms cannot trigger Omen of Clarity.
Balance: roots and damage over time
| Talent | What it does |
|---|---|
| Nature's MajestyRow 2 | More critical strike chance with all spells and melee attacks. |
| Improved Entangling RootsRow 3 | Roots deal much more damage, and other damage is less likely to break them early. It no longer protects the cast from interruption. |
| Nature's Splendor11-point talent | Lengthens Moonfire, Insect Swarm, Rejuvenation and Regrowth. Requires Nature's Majesty. |
| Insect Swarm16-point talent | Instant Nature damage over 12 seconds that lowers the target's hit chance by 2%. |
| OvergrowthRow 5 | Keep Entangling Roots on up to 3 targets at once. |
| Moonkin Form | Moonkin Aura now gives raid-wide spell critical strike chance only, separate from Leader of the Pack's attack bonus. You can cast every non-healing spell in the form. |
Which tree to play
- Feral is our starting pick for battlegrounds at the level 30 cap. The announced milestones include Feral Charge, Shifting Power and Leader of the Pack; check the full prerequisites before spending your 21 points. Feral Swiftness keeps Cat speed indoors. Primal Bite, the Bear-side talent on the same row, suits fighting in Bear Form, for example to hold a base.
- Restoration is our pick when your group has no healer. Gift of the Earthmother and Swiftmend both fit in 21 points.
- Balance suits defending a base against melee. Improved Entangling Roots and Overgrowth keep up to three attackers rooted, and Insect Swarm lowers a target's hit chance.
Key Druid abilities
Unless an October 15 amendment is noted, values are the first rank from Wowhead's Forever database, datamined beta game data checked October 12; higher ranks last longer or hit harder.
| Ability | Level | Cooldown | Use it to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entangling Roots | 8 | None | Root a target for 12 seconds (18 at rank 3, level 28). 1.5-second cast. Damage can break it, and it now works indoors. |
| Nature's Grasp | 10 | 1 min | For 45 seconds, the next melee attacker to hit you is rooted. Now baseline, and castable in forms and indoors. |
| Bash | 14 | 1 min | Stun for 2 seconds (3 at rank 2, level 30). Bear Form, 10 Rage. |
| Faerie Fire | 18 | None | Lower armor for 40 seconds and stop the target from stealthing or turning invisible. In Bear and Cat Form it is free, with a 6-second cooldown. |
| Hibernate | 18 | None | Sleep a Beast or Dragonkin, such as a Hunter's pet, for up to 20 seconds. Damage wakes it. |
| Feral Charge (Bear) | 20 | 15 sec | Charge an enemy 8–25 yards away for 5 Rage. See the interrupt note below. |
| Feral Charge (Cat) | 20 | 30 sec | Leap behind an enemy 8–25 yards away. |
| Prowl | 20 | 10 sec | Stealth in Cat Form, moving 40% slower at rank 1. |
| Dash | 26 | 5 min | Move 50% faster for 15 seconds in Cat Form, without breaking Prowl. |
| Travel Form | 30 | None | Move 40% faster outdoors. |
| Pounce | 36 | None | Open from Prowl behind the target: a 2-second stun and 90 damage over 18 seconds, for 50 Energy. |
| Frenzied Regeneration | 36 | 3 min | Turn up to 10 Rage a second into health for 10 seconds, up to your full health. Bear Form. |
| Innervate | 40 | 6 min | Give yourself or a healer 400% more Mana regeneration for 20 seconds, even while casting. |
| Barkskin | 44 | 1 min | Take 20% less physical damage for 15 seconds, with no spell pushback. Now works in any form. |
The talent Nature's Swiftness makes your next Nature spell instant on a 3-minute cooldown, including Entangling Roots, Healing Touch and Regrowth. Remove Curse (level 24) clears a Curse or Bane from an ally, Cure Poison (level 14) clears a poison, and Rebirth (level 20, 30-minute cooldown) brings a dead ally back.
Your control is Entangling Roots, Nature's Grasp, Hibernate and the stuns Bash and Pounce, so pair with a teammate who can interrupt.
How Druid forms work in Forever
- Shifting out of control: Wowhead's Forever form tooltips say shapeshifting frees you from roots, snares and Polymorph. Cat, Bear and Travel Form also protect you from Polymorph while you stay in them.
- Disarm: since October 1 every form is immune to Disarm. A Disarm that lands before you shift stays on, and you deal reduced damage until it ends.
- Weapon damage: in Bear, Cat and Dire Bear Form, auto attacks and weapon-damage abilities use your weapon's DPS, at a fixed speed of 1.0 or 2.5 seconds depending on the form. Choose a Feral weapon by its DPS.
- Enchants and procs: weapon enchantments and procs work in forms, including weightstones, Crusader and Windfury Totem.
- Potions: all potions and almost all similar consumables work without cancelling your form, and Druids can now use Rage potions.
- Thistle Tea: Blizzard made it usable by Druids. Icy Veins reports it restores 100 Energy on a 5-minute cooldown; the recipe comes from a Rogue quest, so buy the tea from another player.
- Bombs: most Engineering bombs still cannot be used in forms. Blizzard names the SAF-T and EZ-Thro recipes as the exceptions.
- Racials and objects: racials work in forms, including Shadowmeld, War Stomp and Walk on Air. Most doors and objects can be used without leaving form.
- Bear Form armor bug: Blizzard's September 18 known issues listed armor from consumables and buffs being multiplied by Bear Form's armor bonus. Current behavior is unverified.
How Shifting Power works
Shifting Power replaced Tiger's Fury on October 1.
- Effect: gain 40 Energy at once. Since October 8, Wolfshead Helm adds 5 more each time you use it.
- Cost: 55% of base Mana, the same as Cat Form. Shapeshift cost reductions such as Natural Shapeshifter lower it.
- Cooldown: 16 seconds, or 12 and 8 seconds with one and two points in Improved Shifting Power.
- Limits: Cat Form only, and since October 8 you cannot use it at full Energy.
Bear Form Rage
- Critical strikes: 100% more Rage since October 8 (75% from October 1).
- Getting hit: Rage ignores absorb shields on you. On October 8 Blizzard fixed several Rage bugs and expects typical Druids to gain more Rage when hit.
- Enrage: now gives 10 Rage at once.
Best racials for a Druid
We rate Tauren's War Stomp highest for PvP: it is the only stun among the four Druid races, and it now works in Bear or Cat Form. Unchanged cooldowns are datamined Wowhead values checked October 12; the October 15 Blizzard update supplies the amendments below. The race guide compares every racial.
| Race | Racial | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Tauren | War Stomp (90 sec) | Stuns up to 5 enemies within 8 yards for 2 seconds after a 0.5-second cast. Endurance now adds 2% critical damage and healing. |
| Night Elf | Shadowmeld (10 sec), Elune's Light (3 min) | Shadowmeld stealths you while you stand still; used in combat, its cooldown is 2 minutes. Elune's Light adds 10% critical strike chance for 15 seconds. |
| Windshaper Skyborne | Skysight (2 min), Walk on Air (90 sec) | Skysight adds 10% movement speed for 30 seconds, or 15 minutes near an elemental convergence. Walk on Air is a 10-second downward glide. Wind Blessed adds 3% haste. Skysight can now be cast while moving. |
| High Order Skyborne | Read Ley Line (2 min), Walk on Air (90 sec) | Read Ley Line doubles Health and Mana regeneration for at least 30 seconds (15 minutes at a ley line). Its 2-second cast now works while moving. Wind Blessed adds 3% haste. |
Fight tips
- Against WarriorsShift before the Warrior reaches you, so Disarm cannot land. Nature's Grasp roots the next melee attacker and works in a form.
- Against RoguesFaerie Fire stops a Rogue from stealthing for 40 seconds. Insect Swarm cuts their hit chance, and a Tauren's War Stomp stuns them for 2 seconds.
- Against MagesShift to break a Mage's roots and slows, and stay in Cat or Bear Form so Polymorph cannot land. Feral Charge closes the distance again.
- Against HuntersCat Feral Charge puts you behind the Hunter, inside the 8-yard dead zone where Blizzard says their ranged attacks stop working. Hibernate puts their pet to sleep.
- Against healersStun healers with Bash or War Stomp, and let a teammate with an interrupt stop their long heals.
- Healing under pressurePut Rejuvenation on the player about to be hit, then Swiftmend for an instant heal while the Rejuvenation keeps ticking. Save Nature's Swiftness for an instant Healing Touch.
Blizzard listed parry and block from behind at very close range on October 1. Its current status is unverified; if you encounter it, try a little more distance.
Recent Druid changes
- Rejuvenation, Tranquility and Wild Growth can land critical heals. Wrath's base damage rose about 50%. Mangle was renamed Primal Bite, and Cat Feral Charge can no longer target allies.
- Class preview: potions, racials, weapon effects and most objects work in forms. Nature's Grasp (level 10) and Omen of Clarity (level 20) became baseline, Revive arrived at level 12 and Lacerate at 42.
- Forms became immune to Disarm, and Bear critical strikes gained 75% more Rage. Tiger's Fury was replaced by Shifting Power and Improved Shifting Power. Faerie Fire no longer resets your swing timer, Swipe gains 3% of Attack Power, and Primal Bite's threat roughly doubled.
- Critical-strike Rage rose to 100%. Shifting Power cannot be used at full Energy, and Wolfshead Helm adds 5 Energy to it. Mana Potions and the Recovery and Revelation enchants now work in forms, and Cat Form no longer lowers maximum health. Thorns returned to its Vanilla base damage with a 6% spell power ratio (was 13.3%). Fewer effects can override your form, so opponents can see which form you are in. PvP critical strikes are no longer weakened.
