Earning and spending Honor

  • Earn Honor by killing enemy players, finishing battlegrounds and completing PvP quests, including the weekly Journey quests.
  • During a battleground's holiday week, that battleground gives extra Honor and Rank Points. Blizzard has not published the schedule or the size of the bonus.
  • Blizzard reviewed Honor gains to make them more consistent across battlegrounds, so that Alterac Valley is not the only efficient choice.
  • The Legacy perk For Great Honor increases the Honor you earn from PvP by an amount Blizzard has not given. See PvP preparation for Legacy perks.
  • You can hold at most 25,000 Honor, so spend it before you reach the cap. Blizzard raised the cap from 15,000 on October 1, when most PvP item costs rose about 50%.
  • Spend Honor at the PvP vendors on gear, the insignia trinket, combat potions, battle standards, tabards and mounts. Many need a minimum rank; see PvP gear and rewards for prices. In beta data, Rank 14 weapons cost 10,500–22,500 Honor, so the most expensive need nearly a full cap.
  • Spending Honor does not lower your rank. Icy Veins reports that Honor cannot be turned into Rank Points.

How Rank Points work

Blizzard confirms a weekly rank cap. The point totals and weekly limits below are from beta game data; Icy Veins reports the same numbers.

  • Rank Points raise your rank from 1 to 14, and Rank 14 needs 24,750 in total. You never spend them. Icy Veins reports that they do not decay during a season and reset when it ends.
  • Earn them from battlegrounds and PvP quests, including the weekly Journey quests. The in-game currency description also names tasks given in Gadgetzan; Blizzard has not said whether these are the same quests.
  • A weekly cap limits your rank: Rank 3 in week 1 of a season, rising to Rank 14 in week 10. See the weekly cap table.
  • The 10-week Field of Honor PvP Season's Journey has one quest a week. Each gives Honor and Rank Points, and the quests for weeks 4, 7 and 10 also give a Legacy point. Blizzard says the tasks that give a Legacy point remain available to complete in later seasons, because they are tied to the Legacy system. It has not said whether completed tasks pay again.
  • To check your progress, open the Character Pane (C) and choose the Player vs. Player tab. It shows your rank, your Rank Points and the rewards you can buy.

Marks of Honor by battleground

  • Each battleground has its own mark: Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, Alterac Valley and the new Darkspear Islands Mark of Honor. Blizzard's October 15 notes raised battleground mark stacks from 20 to 30.
  • Icy Veins and Wowhead reported in September that a win gives 3 marks of that battleground and a loss gives 1.

Each rare piece and Rank 14 weapon also needs marks from one battleground, so play the one whose marks you need. Mark costs are Icy Veins' beta prices from September 21; beta data from October 4 shows the same amounts after the Honor price rise.

Alterac ValleyHelm (15)Two-handed weapons (20)
Darkspear IslandsNecklace and boots (10 each)One-handed and ranged weapons, off-hands and shields (10)

The September price list asks 20 Alterac Valley marks for a Rank 14 two-handed weapon. The insignia trinket and the Emboldened Seals that upgrade rare pieces to epic cost no marks.

Blizzard says Darkspear Islands has reputation quests where you turn in Marks of Honor. Wowhead reported in September that marks can also be traded for experience and reputation. Each of the four battleground reputations gives one Legacy point at Exalted.
